Our Leadership Team

Byron H. Coffin IV is the Interim Chief Financial Officer at Optus Bank, bringing more than 30 years of accounting and financial management experience to the organization. A Certified Public Accountant, Byron oversees the Bank’s accounting department, regulatory reporting, financial statement preparation, and asset/liability management, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and transparency in all areas of financial operations.

Before joining Optus Bank in 2024, Byron built an extensive career with Synovus/NBSC, where he held progressive leadership roles including Chief Financial Officer of The National Bank of South Carolina, Chief Financial Officer of Synovus Bank of Nashville, and Director of Finance for Synovus Retail, Commercial, and Private Wealth Banking Segments. In these roles, he led financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, profitability analysis, and strategic decision-making initiatives, directly partnering with senior leadership to strengthen performance and growth.

Byron began his career as a staff auditor with First Citizens Bank and NBSC before advancing into accounting and financial leadership roles. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and is also a graduate of the BAI Bank Financial Management School.

Beyond his professional expertise, Byron has been active in community service, volunteering for more than 25 years as a youth coach and serving as Treasurer for the SOAR Sports Ministry program in Columbia, SC.
